Real Madrid's new jersey, a long line of purple classics

Real Madrid have unveiled their away jersey for the 2022/23 season replacing it with their classic colors.

Madrid may be nicknamed Los Blancos but they have a strong affinity with purple in their kits. Think of it, Fiorentina is arguably the only club to be more color-conscious than Real Madrid. That's because I Viola use this unique color in their home kits.

But other than Fiorentina purple was a rarely used color in football. That is until Real adopted it as one of their unofficial colors.

Real Madrid's 2022/23 new jersey returns to classic purple

The latest effort is a distinctive light purple the same color that was used for the trim on Real Madrid's new home kit. On the away kit, however, the cool diagonal geometry gives it a two-tone effect. Light purple is also the predominant color on the shorts and socks too. However, unlike the shirts they are one color and have no graphic shapes.

A sign that pays homage to the history

Madrid's official website says the angular pattern is "inspired by the stripes of the club's emblem". In the 1930s Real Madrid used a similar color on its logo to represent the Castilla region. As a result, the angular design may be once again subtly paying homage to its history.

Speaking of the badge this is not a typical color on the new shirt. Instead, Madrid painted it black to make the logo stand out against the light background.

Likewise, the Adidas logo and Fly Emirates shirt sponsors are black. It also appears on the trim of the jerseys. The round collar and sleeve cuffs feature a dark shade of Adidas stripes across the shoulders.

Lovely Details of Real Madrid New Jersey

Regarding jersey printing, the name and number fonts are the same as the new Real Madrid home jersey. This cool stencil design pays homage to the "Galacticos" era of the 21st century - it's a nice touch. So Adidas are not afraid to fall back into nostalgia on the front.

In addition, Real Madrid are selling their 2022/23 away kit to fans choosing between a La Liga or Champions League sleeve logo. This way supporters can showcase their team's success in two games last season while providing an extra dose of authenticity.

Adidas' understated yet the high-quality design is likely to be popular with Madrid fans who will always buy any Real shirt in bulk. They want their team to lift more trophies in it next season.

Madrid's first iconic purple jersey

Madrid's first iconic purple jersey was designed by Adidas in the early 1980s and has been used to decorate home jerseys for decades.

In 1994/95 Kelme's efforts effort popularised the color further with the Madrid faithful. Michael Laudrup,  Fernando Hierro and a young Raul all wore this bold design which featured two purple and four diagonal stripes.

Since then Kelme and Adidas used the color. Most recently Real Madrid's last purple jersey was 2016/17 away shirt. Fans may remember this as the kit Madrid used to win their 12th Champions League title when they beat Juventus 4-1 in Cardiff.
